Thank you First Open Heart - times three!

The Campbell River Branch of the First Open Heart Society (FOHS) recently purchased equipment to help three different departments in the Campbell River Hospital; Event Recorders for Electrodiagnostics, Data Scopes for Emergency and PaceArt Software for the Pacemaker Clinic. The First Open Heart Society of British Columbia was formed in 1973 on the initiative of cardiologists and early heart surgery patients to function as a support group for patients awaiting and recovering from heart surgery, and their families. The idea was first conceived by Dr. W. Glenn Freisen, a former Victoria cardiologist. He suggested that both pre-op and post-op stress and trauma could be eased if those patients who were about to undergo surgery could talk to those who had "walked the path".There are Chapters of the Society throughout Vancouver Island and Campbell Rivers' chapter raises money to provide support for local cardiac patients and their families, to provide cardiac equipment for the Campbell River Hospital and to assist with cardiac training for Campbell River Hospital nurses and technicians. 'Walk for Hearts", their main fund raiser, is held the first Sunday in May, for information call Ed or Lois at 250-287-3096
