Thank you Rotary Clubs of Campbell River!

The Rotary Clubs of Campbell River recently presented $10,775 the Campbell River Hospital Foundation.  These funds are the proceeds from the March for Children this past December and will help purchase two pieces of equipment; a DCA Vantage  for Diabetes Education and Vital Signs Monitor for the Maternity Department.  The DCA is a machine that is used in the Pediatric Diabetes Clinic; children with diabetes have to have a blood test every 3 months called a HbA1c.  This machine does the test with a small finger poke rather than a vent puncture (needle in arm) which can often scare children.  The DCA can assist families by reducing lengthy and costly trips to BC Children’s Hospital, assisting visiting specialists in planning management strategies and can help children prepare for insulin pump eligibility. Currently, here are approximately 80 children who will benefit from this machine.  The cost for this equipment is approximately $6000. The Vital Signs Monitor is a piece of equipment that is capable of checking blood pressure, temperature and heart rate.  This monitor is mobile and able to be moved from patient to patient and can be used for neonatal, pediatric and adult patients.  The cost for this monitor is approximately $4000. There are two Rotary Clubs in Campbell River; the Rotary Club of Campbell River and the Rotary Club of Campbell River Daybreak the main objective of Rotary is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.  Throughout their history, Campbell River Rotarians have continuously adopted the theme that Rotarians are committed to "putting something back into the community."  This has resulted in millions of dollars and tens of thousands of volunteer hours into projects for the citizens of Campbell River. The March for Children takes place in December on the last Saturday before Christmas, often on the coldest, wettest day!  The March is a project shared between the two Campbell River Clubs and has generated more than $360,000 since it began in the 1950’s.
