It's All About Teamwork

Race the River was introduced to Campbell River in 2010 by the BraveHearts and River Spirit Dragon Boat Teams.  Beyond their passion for the sport, these teams share many common ideals. They share the belief that dragon boating is not only good for physical health but also promotes and encourages feelings of confidence through team effort and achievement.   Recently the 2013 Race the River Dragon Boat Regatta organizing committee presented the Hospital Foundation with a donation totaling more than $2100. Money was raised through a salmon bbq hosted by Marine Harvest, a Carnation Ceremony, with the Carnations donated by Quality Foods and event proceeds from Glens Kettle Korn.   Their donation will help purchase a CADD Pump for Cancer Care (Continuous Ambulatory Delivery Device).  These pumps are used in palliative care to deliver pain medications.  They slowly release medication at a controlled rate.  They also give the patient the opportunity to control their pain medication at the push of a button, CADD pumps are instrumental in allowing patients to stay home longer.  They say that in dragon boat paddling there are no stars; that it is a total team effort.  We admire their team effort to make a difference and support quality health care for Campbell River and the North Island, and in our eyes they are all stars!
