2011-2012 Campaign - Thank You!

Our Donors and Supporters have helped staff upgrade their education in numerous departments including Endoscopy, Operating Room, Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy.  Because of you, thirteen (13) pieces of vital medical equipment for seven (7) departments in 2011-2012 and here are some examples:       An ECG is used to measure the rate and regularity of heartbeats as well as the size and position of the heart chambers.  It can detect the presence of any damage to the heart, the effects of drugs or devices used to regulate the heart.  This ECG is dedicated to the ICU and having the ability to access a 12 lead ECG is vital to optimal patient care. An Infant Stabilette is used routinely after a baby is born to perform routine preliminary tests and health care evaluations as well as infant warming.  It is also used to help support and stabilize the babies breathing and if needed is used in an emergency respiratory intervention. Event Recorders are used to record heart rhythms.  The Event Recorder is patient activated and is give to a patient whose symptoms' are infrequent.  When a patient has numerous events, they download the information via the telephone into a computer at the hospital for review.  Data Scopes are also referred to as "Nurse on a Stick", they are mobile stands that are used to check blood pressure, pulse and temperature.  Most recently they have been purchased for Emergency, Cancer Care, Medical Day Care, Maternity and 2 South. This Scale for Cancer Care has a large base that enables patients to feel safer standing if they are feeling weak or ill.  This Scale has been a welcome addition to the Cancer Care unit and has in fact been shared with the entire North Wing of the Sunshine Wellness Centre. You helped six families with children with Diabetes attend Family Camp for kids with Diabetes and their families at Camp Homewood on Quadra Island.  Kids and parents alike make new friends and have great fun while learning, playing and supporting one another. Without your support, these families would not have been able to attend.
