Christa Isaac Memorial Gift from Tom Hunt Jr.

We had the pleasure of receiving this incredible donation from Tom Hunt Jr. (pictured) in support of our Hospital Foundation. This carving is of a Wolf, which is the Clan Crest of the Isaac Family of Kingcome First Nation. It has been created in honour and memory of granddaughter Christa Isaac who passed away from brain cancer when she was 6 years old.

Tom Hunt Jr. is the son of Hereditary Chief George Hunt and Mary Hunt, Tom D. Hunt is a member of the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation who was born in Victoria in 1964. Tom began apprenticing in Kwakwaka’wakw art with his father at the age of twelve and later worked with his brother George Hunt Jr. When entering his teenage years Tom spent several summers in Campbell River working with his maternal grandfather the late Sam Henderson. During that stage of his development of Kwakwaka’wakw art style, Tom learned the artistic style of the ‘Nakwaxda’xw Nation (Blunden Harbour).

This amazing piece of art is valued at $7,500 and will be auctioned off at our golf tournament tomorrow. Thank so very much for your generosity Tom, your gift is truly appreciated.
